Our Church

I went to a church service this morning at St. John's Lutheran in Wolsey, which is the small town west of us. I love the building from the outside, but the inside is just beautiful. I love the big arching architecture and the massive lit cross on the wall. Better yet, it is a very traditional church with a very nice Pastor. It seems to be the perfect little church for Boe and I to get married in, and I hope our date is still available. All the people were very welcoming and one family even asked if I would join them for lunch! I was floored! How nice of them!
Yes, it seems Wolsey is a nice little place to set roots. I hope we get the chance to be good friends with some of the nice families around here.
Have a wonderful day, all!

Planning, Wishing, Dreaming!

Hi Everyone,
Just wanted to update you guys: the wedding planning is coming along detail-by-detail. I'm having so much fun dreaming about this and that. I'm the type of person who pays attention to details, after all the Devil's in the details, right? Maybe they say that because of how much details are the devil themselves and how the stress me out so much! Anyway, Boe made fun of me last night, because I would like to do jam with cute labels as our favors-I think they would fit in really well with the summer/outdoorsy reception. He asked me, "Well when are you going to do that?" I hadn't thought that far, but I'm sure Mom and I can tackle it sometime this fall before it gets too cold. I have to be in Nebraska for school anyway, might as well have a couple good weekends making jam while I'm at it!
Mom sent a couple bridal magazines, and I've gotten so many cute and wonderful ideas from them! Can't wait to see what's next! I'm thinking it may be a very original, but cute wedding. Hopefully it doesn't turn into a hodge-podge of cute ideas gone way wrong!
Guess we'll have to see, won't we!
Until next time,

Bride History: 101

I was reading "The Bridesmaid's Companion" by Valerie Berrios today (I realize I'm not a bridesmaid, but I figured there would be something to learn from it) and it's a really cute book! I recommend it to any bridesmaids or brides-to-be. In fact, I ordered one for each of my four bridesmaids. Anyway, in all my nerdy glory, I came across a really cool section of bride history. Here's what I read:
"The history of bridesmaids dates back to the Roman era, when the bride would travel to the groom's town or village accompanied by a group of similarly dressed women, a ruse to help guard her from robbers, bandits, and kidnappers. Other historians trace the origin of bridesmaids to biblical times. In the book of Genesis, Jacob's two wives, Leah and Rachel, are escorted to their wedding by handmaidens. The Romans eventually made it law for a marrying couple to have ten witnesses present at their wedding to protect them from misfortune brought on by evil spirits. The attendants were required to wear the same attire as the bride a groom in order to confuse the spirits who wished to bring harm to the newlyweds.
"The tradition of the couple and their attendants dressing alike continued well into the nineteenth century, as many people still believed that a couple could be cursed by ill-wishers on their wedding day. In later years, the number of attendants in a wedding party signified the family's status in the community. In essence, the more attendants you had, the wealthier you were. Today things aren't so gloomy-or materialistic. Now it's perfectly acceptable for a bride to have just one bridesmaid or two female attendants, especially if the wedding is an intimate one."
Pretty interesting! But then, any mentioning of the words wedding, bride, groom, or white sends me in a tizzy!
Hope everyone's having a wonderful day!

Life is good

All is well in Wolsey, South Dakota. Boe's been busy working at Dakota Air Spray, spraying when it's not too wet or too windy, which has been just about never. I've been having fun planning the wedding. At this rate, it will be fully planned by November, but it's all sorts of fun!
The closing date for the house has been pushed back from July 15 to somewhere around the end of July, so I may not be able to help move in before leaving for Canada, but it will all be a surprise when I return sometime during the school year! I look forward to getting down and dirty in the spring after graduation. The house is going to look like a whole new one!
The horses are fat and happy at their new house, and the dogs are settling in nicely too. Rocky wasn't fond of the fireworks the last couple of nights, but he's recovering! Dally is a tough cookie, and pretends not to be scared, but she was nestled up to me pretty tight too.
Be looking for save the dates sometime soon, and I hope everyone is doing well!
